NIHR Bioresource Centre Leeds

Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is delighted to join a network of national Bioresource centres.

Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust (LTHT) has been successful in securing National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) BioResource Centre designation and funding from January 2018 to March 2022. The NIHR BioResource supports studies aiming to identify key genes in the development of particular diseases, and the link between genes, the environment, health and disease. Through this understanding, improved treatments can be developed to reduce the impact of disease or even cure it.

The joint NIHR Leeds Biomedical Research Centre and Clinical Research Facility bid led by Professor Maya H Buch will mean the Leeds BioResource Centre will provide a key, accessible resource of volunteers from the general population and patients with both common and rare diseases for academic and industry led experimental medicine and clinical research studies.

Over the next three years, a team based within the Leeds Clinical Research Facility will offer the opportunity to participate in this programme to a range of adults and children being treated at LTHT, contributing to future scientific knowledge generation and improved diagnosis and care.
