BRC Researchers Awarded OBEs

Two of the Leeds BRC’s key researchers have been recognised in the 2018 Queens Birthday Honour’s list.  Professor Paul Emery, the Director of the BRC, was awarded an OBE for his outstanding services to rheumatology.  Paul is a leading international figure in his discipline and an ambassador for UK scientific and clinical excellence. Emery has been a NIHR Senior Investigator for the last seven years, is the most highly cited rheumatologist in Europe, was identified by the European Society for Clinical Investigation as one of the most influential biomedical scientists (1996-2011) and has recently been named as one of the 250 World’s Most Influential Scientific Minds.  Paul said ‘“This award recognises the hard work performed, in both Leeds and Europe, by a number of people in preventing the disability of arthritis.”

Professor Anne-Maree Keenan has been nominated for an OBE for services to podiatry.  Anne-Maree is Chair of Applied Health Research and Assistant Director of the NIHR Leeds Biomedical Research Centre and whose research interests are the foot and lower limb in osteoarthritis.   Anne-Maree is involved in research capacity building nationally for allied health professionals.  Anne-Maree has also been heavily involved in the PPI group since it’s inception.  Anne-Maree has said:  “I am deeply honoured to be recognised for championing the role of podiatry and allied health professionals in research, both here in the UK and Australia, and am fortunate to work with so many committed, like-minded people.  I am truly grateful”.
