Recommendations for the use of MRI in axial Spondyloarthitis in the UK

Dr Helena Marzo-Ortega LMS MRCP PhD, Consultant Rheumatologist and Honorary Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Leeds, Clinical Lead Spondyloarthritis Service, and Chair of the British Society for Spondyloarthritis has been involved in a very exciting project about MRI in the diagnosis of axial Spondyloarthritis (axial SpA). Working as the main convenor, alongside Dr Pedro Machado of University College London, this is the first project developed and sponsored by the British Society for Spondyloarthritis and also a true collaboration between Rheumatologists and Radiologists in the UK  with 6 members of the 14 strong expert task force being from the NIHR Leeds Biomedical Research Centre. The project has been successful in developing highly clinical relevant guidance for jobbing Radiologists and Rheumatologists, to improve early diagnosis and management of Axial SpA (affecting young individuals that may take up to 10 years of suffering before diagnosis).
