A University College Cork medical graduate, Dr Tan has been in academic rheumatology in Leeds since 2001, and was awarded Young Investigator Awards from the British Society for Rheumatology and the Asia Pacific League of Associations for Rheumatology. Dr Tan was one of the first Walport/NIHR Clinical Lecturers after being awarded an MD degree with commendation for her work on ‘The use of MRI to investigate anatomical factors in inflammatory and degenerative arthritis and their mechanisms of damage’. This was followed by an NIHR Clinician Scientist Award to study High-resolution MRI on the role of ligaments in symptom and anatomic expression, and diagnosis of hand osteoarthritis.
Dr Tan leads the emerging research area in developing novel imaging techniques in studying the impact of rheumatic diseases on muscles
Dr Tan is an active member of the medical community on twitter and have lectured about her social media experience globally.
Imaging (MRI and ultrasound) including high-resolution and novel imaging techniques in rheumatic diseases to help improve the understanding of disease pathogenesis including osteoarthritis, psoriatic arthritis, early rheumatoid arthritis and muscle conditions.
