Senior Investigator awards for BRC members

We are pleased to share the news that two BRC members, Professor Hemant Pandit and Professor Gordon Cook have been appointed as prestigious NIHR Senior Investigators.

Professor Cook who co-leads for our Haematology Theme received the award in recognition of his work on multiple myeloma (MM).

“I am delighted to receive this NIHR Senior Investigator award for the next 4 years.

It is an honour to work with a great multi-disciplinary team and this award is recognition of our team’s work in MM clinical and translational research.

I will continue to develop wider links with other researchers in the Leeds academic environment, both in my roles as BRC co-lead for the Haematology Theme and co-director of the Leeds Cancer Research Centre.

Our research has national and international impact for patients with MM and I am looking forward to furthering our strengths to keep Leeds a key centre of MM research.

I am grateful for the support of University of Leeds, Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust, and to patients and carers in the delivery of this vital research agenda.”

Professor Hemant Pandit who is part of the BRC’s Surgical Technologies theme was reappointed to Senior Investigator, the award recognising his continuing research in osteoarthritis.

“I am honoured to receive this 4-year NIHR Senior Investigator award.

This is a great recognition of our team’s work with the NIHR’s Leeds BRC, Leeds HealthTech Research Centre and Yorkshire and Humber Clinical Research Network, and the grants supporting Leeds Institute of Rheumatic and Musculoskeletal Medicine.

I will work closely with colleagues from different specialities to further our inter-disciplinary research and deliver world-class studies (including first in human) to improve patient experiences and outcomes.

I am looking forward to continuing my work in translational research in osteoarthritis and supporting NIHR activities through collaborations that deliver studies with input from patient and public.

The continued support I receive from Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, University of Leeds, my colleagues and, most importantly, our patients is the primary reason behind this prestigious award.”
