Our lead for Patient and Public Involvement & Engagement Amy Rebane has been featured by Health Innovation Leeds as part of their spotlight series on Leeds as a centre of excellence in healthcare research.

Amy comments on the fact that in health science research trust is essential but fragile, built through relationships that take time and effort. This foundation is crucial for research excellence, which Leeds researchers are prioritizing by engaging deeply with diverse communities to meet their actual needs.

The National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) has tasked Leeds researchers with enhancing local community participation, particularly for those underserved by research. NIHR Leeds BRC has expanded its public engagement team, emphasising the importance of meaningful, inclusive engagement.

By partnering with Healthwatch Leeds and incorporating community insights, we are breaking barriers and fostering trust. This new, coordinated approach aims to ensure research benefits those most in need, shaping health and care services effectively.

Through collaboration NIHR Leeds BRC hopes to create a consistent, community-centred approach, making research accessible and relevant to all.
