Lunch and Learn: NIHR Leeds BRC brings health research to the community in new interactive sessions

The NIHR Leeds Biomedical Research Centre Patient and Public involvement team trialled a new style of event in partnership with Better Leeds Communities at Burley lodge to help introduce people to the world of health research. We named these the Lunch and Learn sessions, and they were designed to provide an informal space for community members to attend and learn a little about the work we do.

The two events, hosted on the 9 and 16 of October, had researchers from Pathology, Musculoskeletal, Cardiometabolic, AMR and Infection, and the PPIEP team attending, who ran mini-interactive workshops for groups of attendees. Attendees were moved around the tables to hear from each of the researchers, and then had an opportunity at the end to enjoy a locally catered lunch and a casual chat with the BRC team members.

We received some fantastic feedback from the Lunch and Learn events and will be looking to run more in 2025:

“Verry Informative. Now I understand why GPs don’t give me antibiotics.”

“Very enjoyable, extremely interesting.”

“Found it very interesting and easy to understand. I will definitely be interested in doing more sessions.”
