Leeds BRC and local partners collaborate on project giving voice to those living with long-term fatigue

We are proud to shine a light on some of the excellent work ongoing at NIHR Leeds Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) as part of our commitment to Patient Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) in Leeds and the surrounding area.

Our BRC team has recently contributed to the launch of Embodying Fatigue, a new podcast exploring the lived experiences of people with long-term fatigue, through a unique creative and research collaboration.

Our patient engagement colleagues facilitated some outstanding work to contribute to this local project, in cooperation with Dr Lucy Prodgers, Lecturer in Psychological and Social Medicine at Leeds Institute of Health Sciences (LIHS), and Ellie Harrison, visual and performance artist, both of whom have personal experience of chronic fatigue. Embodying Fatigue is part of a wider initiative, connected to Iconic Fatigue, an immersive gallery installation by Ellie Harrison and designer Bethany Wells

Hosted by Yasmeen Soudani, the podcast follows the development of the innovative ‘fatigue exploration kits’, a novel tool designed to support embodied storytelling and dialogue around chronic fatigue.

Through engaging conversations, Lucy and Ellie share insights from their creative research process, reflecting on the experiences of PPIE contributors, and exploring how these collaborations enrich understanding of chronic illness.

NIHR Leeds BRC is proud to support this project, alongside the contributions of Leeds Cultural Institute as part of our mission to improve health outcomes by which allowing research to be shaped by those with lived experience to ensure it meets their needs and priorities.

Embodying Fatigue’s sister project, Iconic Fatigue, will be holding its first exhibition that will run at Sunny Bank Mills, Farsley from 11 October – 24 December 2025.
