BBC documentary spotlights the impact of lupus research and life-changing patient care
Ground-breaking lupus research at the NIHR Biomedical Research Centre:Leeds(BRC) has been highlighted as part of a new BBC document exploring the realities of living with the autoimmune disease and the treatment at Leeds Teaching Hospitals. Launched at the HLTH Europe conference this week, the documentary forms part of The Shift: Closing the Gap on Women’s Health, a series highlighting conditions that are often under-recognised and the need to improve outcomes for women’s health.

The film features Professor Ed Vital, NIHR Biomedical Research Centre:Leeds researcher, Professor at the University of Leeds and Honorary Consultant Rheumatologist at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, whose internationally-recognised work is helping improve lupus diagnosis, treatment and patient outcomes. It follows Alice, a Leeds Teaching Hospitals patient, who shares her experience of living with lupus, the care she receives and the impact specialist research and care can have on people living with the condition.
Filmed in Leeds, including at the NIHR Biomedical Research Centre:Leeds, the documentary touches on the cutting-edge research which is instrumental in enhancing understanding of the condition and supporting clinical care.
